It was game on for the young athletes at the Kings Park stadium on Saturday the 18th of August during the first league of the KwaZulu-Natal Athletics Sub Youth League. Despite the cold weather and the rain in the morning, people came out in their numbers to support the 7 to 15 year old KwaZulu-Natal athletes and everything went according to plan without any disruption.
The day started off with the Final Girls/Boys 15 5km walk while the Final Girls 11 High Jump and the Final Girls 13 Long Jump started just five minutes later. Other games like, Javelin, Turbo Javelin, Shotput, Hurdles and Steeplechase continued throughout the day. The event ended with the final Boys 15 200m run.
KZNA was overwhelmed with the number of entries this year as more than 200 entries were recorded. “It was impressive that we had more girls than boys who entered this year,” Mzomusa Gumede of KZNA said.
League 2 of the KZNA Primary Sub Youth will be held next week Saturday at Newcastle.
