The local track & field season came to an exciting finish this past weekend. Senior and masters athletes came head to head to determine who will be the 2019 champions. And we were not disappointed. The standard was really high compared to recent seasons and it was refreshing to see the many rivalries and challenges amongst athletes.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the performance of Phantane AC athlete, Mbuleli Mathanga. Mbuleli broke an 11 year KZN record in the 10 000m with a brand new record time of 28:37.24 on Friday evening. On Saturday he followed that up with a win in the 5000m in a time of 13:53.26 missing the KZN record by 2 seconds! We can only stand up an applaud this young man. An the best of all is that he did it barefoot!
